Emmons strings

I am using Emmons strings for a long time but they are no longer available in The Netherlands.I've tried Jagwire, SIT, Cobra Coils,etc,but for some reason I don't like these brands and always coming back to Emmons strings.Are there vendors in the States that are selling Emmons strings besides the Emmons Company.And do somebody know where Emmons get there strings from ??.

J, I used to work at the Emmons factory. There were 2 types of strings. The extra lively and green pack or smooth wound. They all came from GHS. We just repackaged them. Extra Lively are stainless, Green pack are nickel. Hope this helps.

Isnt it true that there is really few string manufacturers and most are just in different packaging? Kinda like automotive lifters they are ussually either Johnsons or Eatons in somebody elses box

Not to contradict Ron and Rebecca, but to add that I used Emmons Extra-Lively strings for a long time, and I believe they were an alloy of some type. I felt they were similar to GHS Boomers, also an alloy string, at least in feel and sound.

Jim Aycoth told me they were getting their strings from GHS. There was a period of time when the Aycoths had the company and for some reason had a hard time getting strings, and that's when I went to George L's out of self-preservation.

i always preferred the emmons' also...green pack i think. they had alot stronger and heavier winding on the ball ends. i'd like more if they are available.

they were unlike any other brand.

J, postage does not seem to be an issue. If a 10 day mail delivery wait is OK the postage on the package we discussed is $5.40. I emailed you but you might see this sooner.

I got 2 sets of the "Extra Lively" strings from Rebecca in St.Louis. When I put them on my push/pull omg I could not believe the difference. And before someone says it, the strings I replaced, SIT stainless which I always used, were only about 2 weeks old. They just sounded different, better and really were "Extra Lively". Needless to say I ordered more directly from Emmons. I would also like to add that speaking to both Bobbie (sp) and Rebecca on the phone was enjoyable and the service, postage and delivery time was outstanding.

Thanks John, that is exactly the kind of treatment I experience everytime I call them which is very often. I happen to be using SIT strings at this time but I like the Emmons strings very much as I do Jagwire, John Pearse and GHS. They are all good strings.

Don't want to be redundant, but they are GHS. As I said I worked there for many years and repackaged them. Don't know why you would not tell the truth. Green pack are smooth wound, ex-lively are stainless. That's the fact's folk's.

I certainly don't think the Emmons Company will mind me posting the facts, many people out there already know them. The Extra-Lively string is nickel-round wound, the old green pack strings are nickel smooth-wound or semi-flat. As of 1999, Emmons did not sell any stainless strings. Ron Sr. did not like the sound of stainless and we had very few calls for them. During my twelve years there, the strings were manufactured by GHS. The 11's and 11 1/2's were high-break tested. Of course all plain strings were just steel wire. I have no idea who manufactures the strings now. GHS is one of only about 3 or 4 manufactures in the world and probably the largest. When comparing brands, keep in mind they may all be made by the same company. I hope this information is helpful and certainly not disputed. I ordered the strings in bulk from GHS from 1987 until 1999.

The SIT Emmons string is a different brand all together. SIT makes a set that Buddy once endorsed, it is not a string that the Emmons Company sells. To my knowledge SIT is not made by GHS and could be their own manufacturer. I have tried SIT strings and they do not have the same characteristics as the GHS or Emmons brands.

Hey Jack, glad you are back. We (Emmons)did sell stainless in the early 80's.I was working there when they first came out. I didn't like them,might be Big Ron changed to a different alloy after my tenure.You are correct, all of the Emmons strings are GHS. I use the Boomers on all of my guitars and repairs. Have tried the SIT and it is a very good string. But it does sound a little different and I don't think they keep their tone as long as the Boomers.
