Thanks for this detailed explanation. I've been curious about this for a while. I wonder how much intonation is affected up the neck by the finger alignment shifting in C6 mode. My Excel Superb is not completely aligned in its naturally tuned state but I don't notice any crazy intonation issues as I move up the neck. Maybe I'm just compensating as I play. I guess there are string gauge dynamics at play also-

Re: S12 E9/C6 Crossover Explained / SHOJI Steel Guitar
By the way, in the demo performance I intentionally tuned all the notes in both E9 and C6 to 440Hz, without any offsets.
When I first bought an Excel Superb, I had the same questions as you. But after listening to players who perform wonderfully on the Excel Superb, I came to see it as simply part of the guitar’s unique character, and to view it in a positive light.
As you mentioned, I believe that as you play, your body naturally adapts to that character, unconsciously compensating as you go.

Dear Ross,
When I was working at Excel, I watched many of the videos you posted on YouTube, and I was truly blown away.
To be honest, your work has had a real influence on me.
Also, your work stand is incredibly easy to use.

This is fascinating. It is cool to see a 60 year old idea be revisited, and revamped with modern ingenuity!
